Fifty-odd years in one building, which in retail is either stubbornness or a working formula.

Downtown Arlington · Serving Dallas–Fort Worth by appointment
The short answerThe Man’s Shop · Arlington, Texas · Est. 1972

The Man’s Shop has been independently owned in downtown Arlington since 1972. Wally Hardin is usually in the building, Austin Roberson buys the range personally, and Enrique does every alteration on site. Nothing is decided by a head office and nothing is sent away.

What matters

Worth knowing

Owner on the floor
Wally Hardin has been fitting customers here since 1972 and is generally in the shop rather than in an office.
Buying done locally
Austin Roberson selects the range himself. It is not dictated to a formula from elsewhere.
Tailor on site
Enrique has been with us over twenty years. Every alteration happens in this building.
Three generations
A meaningful number of our customers were first brought in by their fathers, and some by their grandfathers.
What that buys you
The person who sells you a garment is accountable for it afterwards, and is still here next year.

The process

Two visits, not five

First appointment
About an hour. Cloth, measurements, and a conversation about how you actually wear the garment.
Build
Four to six weeks. Nothing is rushed and nothing is sent overseas without us knowing where it is.
Collection
Twenty minutes. Anything needing adjustment goes to Enrique, who works on site.
Alterations
Included on what we make. There is no separate bill at collection.
Afterwards
Your pattern stays on file, so the next order is a phone call.

Common questions

The shop, answered

How long has The Man’s Shop been in Arlington?

Since 1972, in downtown Arlington the whole time. Wally Hardin has fitted three generations of some local families, which is less a marketing line than an occupational hazard of staying in one place.

Is it family owned?

Independently owned and run, with the owner on the floor most days. Buying decisions, alterations and fittings all happen in the building rather than being handed to a head office or a contractor.

Why does local ownership matter for clothing?

Because the person who sells you a suit is the person who handles it when the waist needs letting out in three years. In a chain, neither the buyer nor the salesperson is usually still there.

Where are you and what are your hours?

100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, parking beside the building. Monday to Saturday, ten until five, closed Sundays.
