Most men do not want to spend a Saturday shopping. They want to be dressed well and to stop thinking about it. So we keep a deep floor of off-the-rack clothing, keep your measurements on file, and make the visit a short one.
The Man’s Shop offers wardrobe consultation in Arlington, Texas. We record your measurements and what you already own, then build a wardrobe deliberately over time rather than one purchase at a time, drawing on an extensive off-the-rack collection across every category. Come in for a planned appointment, or call and we will put things aside for you.
What it actually is
Not personal shopping. Memory.
The phrase wardrobe consultation gets used loosely. What it means here is simple: somebody at the shop knows your measurements, knows what you bought last year, and knows what you actually wear.
That changes the transaction. You are not starting over each visit, explaining your size and your job and what you already have. We know. The conversation starts at what you need next.
Wally has done this since 1972 and describes himself as a clothing concierge rather than a salesman. It is not marketing language, it is a description of the job.
On the floor
An extensive off-the-rack collection.
A consultation is not a catalogue exercise. Most of what we recommend you can put on the same afternoon, because the floor here is deep. We carry off-the-rack clothing across every category a man actually wears, in enough models, sizes and fabrics that the right answer is usually already hanging on the rack. What is not perfect off the rack goes to our tailor, who has been at that bench for twenty years. Custom is there for the rest.

- Suits, tuxedos and sport coats from Samuelsohn, Jack Victor and Ballin. Several models, a wide fabric range, and tuxedos sold rather than rented.
- Shirts and furnishings
- Dress shirts from Eton and Emanuel Berg, sport shirts from Bugatchi, and the ties, belts and small things that finish an outfit.
- Trousers and denim
- Dress and casual trousers from Ballin, Brax and Meyer; jeans from 34 Heritage and AG.
- Sportswear and outerwear
- Greyson, Johnnie-O and tasc for the days that are not a suit, plus the layers a Texas autumn actually calls for.
- Shoes and boots
- Footwear chosen to work with the rest of it, Tecovas boots included.

- What you already own, what you actually reach for, and what is missing. Most men have too many suits and not enough sport coats.
- The floor
- Walking the racks with someone who knows your sizes. Because the off-the-rack collection is extensive and covers every category, most of the plan can be solved the same afternoon.

- What to buy first, and what can wait a season. We would rather sell you the right three things over two years than the wrong six now.
- Seasonal edits
- Texas has two wardrobes and a brief transition. We will tell you when it is time to switch and what is missing.
- Travel
- Packing for a trip where you need to look right in three different settings and carry one bag.
- The record
- Measurements and purchases stay on file, so reordering is a phone call and gifts are easy for your family to get right.

Call ahead, tell us roughly what you are after, and we will have things pulled before you arrive.
An afternoon on the floor
Come in, tell us the six things you reach for most, and try clothes on. That tells us more than any questionnaire.
A standing arrangement
Some clients simply call twice a year. We put things aside, they come in, it takes an hour.

What does a wardrobe consultation cost?
There is no separate fee for the consultation. It is how we prefer to sell clothing, and it works best when the relationship runs over years rather than a single visit. You pay for what you buy.
Do I need to buy anything at a consultation?
No. Plenty of first consultations end with a plan and nothing purchased, particularly if the honest advice is that what you own is fine and you need one thing in the autumn.
Do you carry off-the-rack clothing?
Extensively, and across every category: tailored clothing, dress shirts and furnishings, trousers, denim, sportswear, outerwear and shoes. Most consultations are solved from the floor the same day, with our tailor finishing the fit. Custom is there for when nothing on the rack is right.
How is this different from personal shopping?
Personal shopping is usually a single session with someone who does not know you. This is a continuing relationship with a shop that keeps your measurements and a record of what you own, so each visit builds on the last rather than starting over.
Can my spouse work with you on gifts?
Yes, and many do. Because your sizes and purchase history are on file, a phone call is usually enough to get something right, which is a considerable improvement on guessing.
Do you help with clothes I did not buy from you?
Of course. We will happily talk through what you already own regardless of where it came from, and our tailor can alter garments bought elsewhere. The point is the wardrobe working, not where each piece was purchased.
Do I need an appointment?
For a full consultation, yes, so we can set aside proper time. For everything else you are welcome during business hours, Monday to Saturday, ten to five.
