Twelve milesup the road
Close enough that Mansfield customers treat us as their local menswear store, which is how we would like it.
The Man’s Shop is an independent menswear store at 100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, serving Mansfield since 1972. Tailored clothing, sportswear, shoes and custom work, with our own tailor on site. Monday to Saturday, ten until five.
For a growing suburb
Worth knowing
- First proper suits
- A lot of what we fit for Mansfield is someone’s first real suit, replacing something bought online.
- Honest advice on spending
- We will tell you when altering what you own beats buying new. It happens more often than you would expect.
- Whole wardrobes, gradually
- Most customers here build over years rather than in one visit, and we keep a note of what you own.
- Alterations on anything
- Including garments bought elsewhere, which is how a good number of Mansfield customers first come in.
- Twelve miles
- South up Highway 287.
Who you will meet
Who you will deal with
- Wally Hardin
- Owner. Has been fitting customers in this building since 1972 and is usually in the shop.
- Austin Roberson
- Store manager and buyer. Selects most of the range and runs the Private Label line.
- Patrick Milligan
- Haberdasher, and directs our ladies’ made-to-measure work.
- Enrique
- Master tailor, over twenty years with us. Every alteration is done by him, on site.
- What that means
- The person who measures you is the person who sees the order through. It is the main practical difference from a department store.
Common questions
The shop, answered
I have never bought from a menswear store. Where do I start?
Tell us what you are dressing for and let us look at what you already own. Frequently the first useful step is altering two things you have rather than buying anything, and we would rather start there.
Do you only sell expensive clothing?
No. There is a wide range, and the honest advice is often to spend less than you were planning on the first purchase and more on the second, once you know what you actually wear.
What if I have a small budget?
Say so. We will tell you honestly where it is worth spending and where it is not, and frequently the first recommendation is altering something you already own.
Do you sell to younger customers?
Regularly, and a good number arrive needing a first suit for an interview or a wedding. That is a conversation we enjoy having.
Do you alter clothing bought somewhere else?
Yes, routinely. Enrique works on garments from anywhere, and it is often how new customers first come to us.
