The suit should be the least interesting thing anyone remembers about you.
An interview suit fitted at The Man’s Shop in Arlington. Navy or charcoal, conventional cut, nothing that draws attention. Custom takes four to six weeks; if the interview is sooner, an off-the-rack suit altered here is the faster and entirely respectable answer.
What matters

- Navy or charcoal
- Nothing else. Both read as competent and neither is memorable, which is the point.
- Conventional cut
- Two-button, notch lapel, moderate shoulder. Anything fashion-forward works against you in a room where you are being assessed.
- The shirt
- White or pale blue, spread or semi-spread collar, properly fitted at the neck.
- The tie
- Conservative. A solid, a small repeating pattern, or a quiet stripe. Nothing novelty and nothing loud.
- Timing
- Four to six weeks for custom. If the interview is in two weeks, buy off the rack and let us alter it.
The process
Two visits, not five
- First appointment
- About an hour. Cloth, measurements, and a conversation about how you actually wear the garment.
- Build
- Four to six weeks. Nothing is rushed and nothing is sent overseas without us knowing where it is.
- Collection
- Twenty minutes. Anything needing adjustment goes to Enrique, who works on site.
- Alterations
- Included on what we make. There is no separate bill at collection.
- Afterwards
- Your pattern stays on file, so the next order is a phone call.

What color suit for an interview?
Navy or charcoal. Both read as competent without being memorable, which is exactly what you want — the interviewer should remember what you said, not what you wore.
Can you turn a suit around quickly?
Custom takes four to six weeks and we will not pretend otherwise. If your interview is sooner, an off-the-rack suit altered here is faster and looks entirely appropriate. Tell us the date and we will be straight with you.
Should I wear a tie?
For most interviews, yes, unless you know the culture is genuinely informal. Overdressed is a far smaller error than underdressed, and a tie is easily removed in the car.
Where are you and what are your hours?
100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, parking beside the building. Monday to Saturday, ten until five, closed Sundays.
