Most men wear the wrong rise and a leg opening that fights their shoes.
Denim fitted and hemmed in downtown Arlington. The two measurements that matter are rise and leg opening, and both are usually wrong on a pair bought off a shelf. We fit, then Enrique hems on site, keeping the original stitching where it matters.
What matters
The measurements that decide it
- Rise
- Where the waistband sits. Too low and the shirt pulls out; too high and it reads as dated. Most men are wearing one or the other.
- Leg opening
- The measurement across the hem. It determines whether the jean sits over a shoe or stacks on it, and it matters far more than the name of the cut.
- Length
- Hemmed with your shoes on. Half an inch changes the whole line.
- Fabric weight
- Heavier denim holds shape and lasts; lighter is more comfortable in summer. Both have a place in Texas.
- Color
- A dark, clean indigo dresses up. Distressing dresses down and dates faster.
Getting it right
How we work
- Bring your shoes
- Hemming is judged standing, in the shoes you will wear. It is the single most common reason a hem gets redone.
- Try, do not order
- Cuts vary between makers and between models. Five minutes in a fitting room beats any size chart.
- Alterations on site
- Enrique works in the building, so pinning happens with you in the garment.
- We will say no
- If a pair does not work on you, we would rather tell you than sell it.
- Keep a note
- We record what you bought and what it needed, which makes the next pair easier.

Denim, answered
What rise should my jeans be?
Mid-rise for most men, sitting just below the natural waist. Low rises read as dated now and cause the shirt to pull out when you sit; very high rises are a stylistic choice rather than a default.
Can you hem jeans without losing the original hem?
Yes. Enrique can retain the original stitched hem, which matters on selvedge and on heavily washed denim where a fresh hem would look obviously new.
How dark should jeans be for smart casual?
Dark indigo with minimal fading and no distressing. That is the version that works under a sport coat and in a restaurant, and the further you move from it the more casual it reads.
Where is the shop?
100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, with parking beside the building. We have been at it since 1972.
Will someone follow me around the shop?
No. Tell us what you are looking for and we will leave you to it, or help if you want help. Nobody here benefits from pressuring you into something that does not work.
What are your hours?
Monday to Saturday, ten until five. Closed Sundays.
