AG denim,fitted here

Buying the right brand is a third of it. The other two thirds are rise and hem.

The short answerThe Man’s Shop · Arlington, Texas · Est. 1972

AG denim fitted and hemmed at The Man’s Shop in downtown Arlington. AG cuts run differently from one another, so the useful part is trying them on and having the hem done here rather than ordering a size and hoping. Alterations by our own tailor, on site.

What matters

The measurements that decide it

Why fit in person
AG cuts vary meaningfully between models. A size that works in one is not a reliable guide to another.
The hem
Done here with your shoes on, retaining the original hem where the wash makes that matter.
Rise
The most important variable and the one least visible in a product photograph.
Leg opening
Determines whether the jean works with a dress shoe, a sneaker or a boot. Worth deciding before you buy.
Alterations included in the conversation
We will tell you what a pair needs before you commit to it.

Getting it right

How we work

Bring your shoes
Hemming is judged standing, in the shoes you will wear. It is the single most common reason a hem gets redone.
Try, do not order
Cuts vary between makers and between models. Five minutes in a fitting room beats any size chart.
Alterations on site
Enrique works in the building, so pinning happens with you in the garment.
We will say no
If a pair does not work on you, we would rather tell you than sell it.
Keep a note
We record what you bought and what it needed, which makes the next pair easier.

Common questions

AG Jeans, answered

Do AG jeans run true to size?

They run differently between cuts, which is the main argument for trying them rather than ordering. Two pairs in the same nominal size can fit quite differently through the rise and thigh.

How long do good jeans last?

Worn once or twice a week, several years. Heavier denim outlasts lighter, and washing less often does more for longevity than anything else you can do.

What else do you carry alongside AG?

A range of denim chosen for fit rather than label. If another maker suits your build better we will say so, which occasionally costs us the sale we were about to make.

Where is the shop?

100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, with parking beside the building. We have been at it since 1972.

Will someone follow me around the shop?

No. Tell us what you are looking for and we will leave you to it, or help if you want help. Nobody here benefits from pressuring you into something that does not work.

What are your hours?

Monday to Saturday, ten until five. Closed Sundays.
