Two numbers cannot describe a torso, which is why your shirts fit at the collar and nowhere else.
Custom men’s shirts measured at The Man’s Shop in Arlington. Collar height and spread, cuff depth, sleeve length taken separately for each arm, and body taper — all specified rather than averaged from a neck size and a sleeve length.

- Collar first
- Height and spread, chosen for your neck and face. It is the part people look at while you talk.
- Sleeves per arm
- Measured separately. Most men have been wearing one cuff in the wrong place for years.
- Body taper
- Enough suppression to stay tucked without billowing when you sit.
- Cloth
- Poplin for heat, fine oxford for wear without a tie, royal oxford when it needs to look dressier.
- Start with two
- One white, one pale blue. That tells you within a week whether the difference matters to you.
The process
Two visits, not five
- First appointment
- About an hour. Cloth, measurements, and a conversation about how you actually wear the garment.
- Build
- Four to six weeks. Nothing is rushed and nothing is sent overseas without us knowing where it is.
- Collection
- Twenty minutes. Anything needing adjustment goes to Enrique, who works on site.
- Alterations
- Included on what we make. There is no separate bill at collection.
- Afterwards
- Your pattern stays on file, so the next order is a phone call.

Custom shirts, answered
How many custom shirts should I start with?
Two. One white, one pale blue. Wear them for a two weeks, then come back and tell us what to change — the second order is where a pattern really becomes right.
What is the most common fit problem?
Sleeve length, by a wide margin. Ready-made shirts cut both sleeves the same and most men’s arms are not, so one cuff has been sitting in the wrong place for years.
Do you keep my pattern?
Yes. Reordering is a phone call to Austin or Patrick rather than another appointment, which is how most customers buy after the first two or three.
Where are you and what are your hours?
100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, parking beside the building. Monday to Saturday, ten until five, closed Sundays.
