What it costs,and why
Nobody publishes suit prices because the honest answer depends on cloth. Here is how it actually works.
Custom suits for Dallas customers, fitted at The Man’s Shop in Arlington. The construction is the same whichever cloth you choose, so cloth sets the price. Alterations at collection are included, which is not true of an off-the-rack suit where fitting costs are separate.

- A good Australian merino sits well below an English Super 150s. Both are made the same way by the same people.
- What is included
- Measurement, construction and the alterations at collection. No separate alterations bill on a suit we made.
- Against off-the-rack
- A department store suit plus the alterations to make it fit lands closer to a custom suit than most people expect.
- Where not to economise
- Cloth weight. A very light cloth photographs well and wears out fast, which is a false economy in a suit worn weekly.
- Second suit
- Shorter conversation, same pattern, often ordered by phone.
The process
Two visits, not five
- First appointment
- About an hour. Cloth, measurements, and a conversation about how you actually wear the garment.
- Build
- Four to six weeks. Nothing is rushed and nothing is sent overseas without us knowing where it is.
- Collection
- Twenty minutes. Anything needing adjustment goes to Enrique, who works on site.
- Alterations
- Included on what we make. There is no separate bill at collection.
- Afterwards
- Your pattern stays on file, so the next order is a phone call.
Common questions
Custom suits, answered
Why will nobody quote a suit price?
Because the number is meaningless without the cloth. The making is identical whichever you choose, so the range is wide and driven entirely by the mill. We will show you the range with cloth in front of you.
Are alterations included?
On a suit we made, yes, at collection. On an off-the-rack suit bought elsewhere they are charged separately, which is worth factoring in when comparing prices.
What is the cheapest way to get a suit that fits?
A well-chosen off-the-rack suit with the sleeves, waist and hem altered. It is frequently the right answer and we will say so rather than push you toward custom.
Where are you and what are your hours?
100 S. West Street in downtown Arlington, parking beside the building. Monday to Saturday, ten until five, closed Sundays.
