- Off the rack, altered
- Frequently the right answer. A well-chosen suit with the sleeves, waist and hem adjusted fits better than most people expect.
- What can be altered
- Sleeve length, waist suppression, trouser hem and taper, jacket length within limits.
- What cannot
- The shoulder. If that does not fit, no alteration rescues it, and we will say so rather than take the work.
- When custom is worth it
- Unusual proportions, a hard-to-find size, or when you want a specific cloth. Not simply because it costs more.
- Turnaround
- Alterations depend on the work and the queue. We give you a date rather than a vague answer.
The process
Two visits, not five
- First appointment
- About an hour. Cloth, measurements, and a conversation about how you actually wear the garment.
- Build
- Four to six weeks. Nothing is rushed and nothing is sent overseas without us knowing where it is.
- Collection
- Twenty minutes. Anything needing adjustment goes to Enrique, who works on site.
- Alterations
- Included on what we make. There is no separate bill at collection.
- Afterwards
- Your pattern stays on file, so the next order is a phone call.
Common questions
Tailored suits, answered
Is an altered off-the-rack suit as good as custom?
Frequently, yes. If the shoulder fits and the cloth is decent, a properly altered off-the-rack suit will outperform a mediocre custom one. Custom earns its place with unusual proportions or a specific cloth requirement.
What cannot a tailor fix?
The shoulder, essentially. Everything else — waist, sleeves, hem, taper — is adjustable within limits. If the shoulder seam does not sit at the edge of your shoulder, the garment is the wrong one and we will tell you.
How much do alterations cost?
It depends entirely on the work. A hem is straightforward, recutting a jacket is not, and we quote before starting rather than after.
