The rented tuxedo in the prom photo is a rite of passage nobody actually enjoys. There’s a better version, and it costs less than you’d think over four years.

The case for buying
One jacket, four years
A rented tuxedo is worn once and returned. A bought one goes to prom, then graduation, then the first internship interview, then a cousin’s wedding.
Young men grow, which is the obvious objection. It is less of one than it sounds: a jacket with room in the seams can be let out, and our tailor is here to do it.
The other argument is simpler. A seventeen-year-old in a jacket that actually fits his shoulders looks entirely different from one in a rental, and he knows it. It shows in the photographs and it shows in how he carries himself.
Come in four to six weeks before prom. The last two weeks before every prom season are the busiest of our year.

When should we come in for prom?
Four to six weeks before the date. Selection is best early and the final fortnight before prom season is the busiest stretch of our year, which means less choice and tighter alteration scheduling.
Do you rent prom tuxedos?
No. We sell them and alter them in-house. For a young man, buying frequently works out better over time because the same jacket carries through graduation, interviews, and weddings for several years afterward.
What if he’s still growing?
Common, and manageable. Jackets and trousers with adequate seam allowance can be let out as he grows, and our tailor is on the premises to do it. We will point you toward garments with room to move.
Suit or tuxedo for prom?
Depends on the school and the young man. A tuxedo is the traditional answer and photographs beautifully. A well-cut dark suit is more versatile afterward and is entirely acceptable at most proms now. We will talk it through with both of you.
How much should we expect to spend?
It varies with what you choose, and we will quote it plainly with the garment in front of you. Compare it against renting for prom and again for graduation, and the arithmetic often favours buying sooner than parents expect.
Can he come back for alterations later?
Yes. If he grows or the fit changes, bring it in. That is precisely the advantage of buying from a shop with its own alterations room rather than ordering online.
